Active 8
The active8 Premier’s Youth Challenge is a youth development program, funded by the government, that provides young South Australians with a range of adventure-based activities that enables them to strengthen their involvement in the community. The program promotes increased self-confidence and self-reliance in young people, and a spirit of volunteering and community activity.
Goals of the active8 program are to enhance young people’s skills and confidence to become actively involved in their local community by developing:
- Individual and group responsibility, self-reliance, self-confidence, and resilience
- The skills of communication
- The values of trust, honesty, integrity, respect, fairness, courage, enterprise and excellence
Participants will be empowered to become actively involved in volunteer organizations and community service schemes within and beyond the community.
Through our involvement with Future Leaders as our service provider, our program focuses on:
- Personal development, including teamwork and leadership skills, through a variety of activities such as bushwalking, music, team games and camps
- Skill development through activities that are structured, fun, challenging and appropriate to the needs of participants and in which achievement is recognized
- Strengthened connection with community through relationships, meaningful participation and contribution
KAS FUTURE LEADERS active8 Program
All participants are required to undertake training in first aid and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation.
Participants are also enrolled in Duke of Edinburgh Award and, if they complete the Bronze Award, they are able to obtain a Stage 1 SACE unit. At least two overnight camps are held throughout the year to provide participants with opportunities to complete the Exploration component of the award.
Participants negotiate and organize an end of year camp that involves a range of activities that reflect the skills they have developed throughout the year and are fun and exciting. Students research activities and venues and propose a camp that is within the limits of our grant.
