Art

All students undertake Art and Design in years 7, 8 and 9. These middle school students experience a range of art experiences. Students are encouraged to experiment with different media and ways of viewing the world. Students are encouraged to develop and document their ideas. In addition they use technology for research and design.

Year 7

Students are introduced to design elements and principles using a range of mediums from watercolours to gouache. Students use IT to develop designs and they produce simple silkscreen prints in printmaking.

Year 8

Students make drawings using specialised exercises, they create ceramics using traditional pinch pot techniques. Students learn rendering techniques with pastel, pencil and charcoal. They produce prints using relief techniques.

Year 9

Students focus on developing their skills in drawing and painting using a variety of mediums. They display their work and are encouraged to work on a larger scale. Students continue to develop their knowledge of printmaking and or ceramics.

In senior secondary students build on their skills and work on projects that are a result of thinking and planning visually. Stage 1 and 2 students work towards exhibiting their work in November.

Year 10

Students gain an understanding of arts practices historically and as commentators of their world in a social and political context. Students develop their knowledge, understanding and skills based on personal interest with a negotiated curriculum in preparation for Stages 1 and 2.

Stage 1 Art

Students develop visual thinking skills by producing a documented study that demonstrates their learning. Students produce a folio of research, ideation, experimentation and exploration that relates directly to the creating of an artwork or a series of artworks.

Stage 2 Art

Students develop visual thinking skills by producing a documented study that demonstrates their learning. Students produce two folios’ of research, ideation, experimentation and exploration that relates directly to the creating of an artwork or a series of artworks for each folio.
