Sport

Keith Area School takes great pride in promoting an active healthy school environment. The school has implemented a Intra School House system for Swimming and Athletics Carnivals, and participates in school knockout sport and as a part of Upper South East (USE) zone teams.

The School Swimming Carnival is held at the local Keith and District Community Pool. Students are encouraged to participate in at least 2 events and this provides inclusion and adds to team spirit. The carnivals are split between a Junior Primary Splash Day, a Year 3-6 Primary Carnival and a 7-12 Secondary Carnival. Points from both the Primary and Secondary carnivals are then added together to come up with an overall winner.

Students then have the opportunity to represent the school at the annual Interschool Swimming Carnival held at Coonalpyn Pool against USE schools. This is a twilight meet aimed at allowing parents and family members the opportunity to watch their children compete. Students are chosen to represent the Upper South East Zone at the SASSSA championships at the Adelaide Aquatics Centre.

The Athletics Carnival is held on the school grounds mid March and incorporates a year 3-12 competition and a separate non-competitive Junior Primary athletics carnival. Keith Area School has three House Teams: Tolmer - green, Stirling - yellow, and Maddison - red. Students participate in the USE interschool Athletics Carnival which is shared around between the schools. Successful students are selected in the USE Athletics team to participate in the SASSSA Athletics Championships at SANTOS Stadium in Adelaide.

The school is also involved in various secondary school knockout competitions throughout the year. Teams are chosen in the following sports: Basketball, Football, Hockey, Netball.

Primary students are also well catered for with teams representing the school in SAPSASA teams: Basketball, Football, Tennis, Cricket, Cross Country Running, Athletics, Swimming. Keith students have been successful in representing the school in the Lower South East zone teams at sporting carnivals in Adelaide.

Many other sporting events are held. Many of which promote participation more than competition. Events such as: Winter Exchange - football and netball, 9-a-side Football - both girls and boys teams, Super 8 cricket.
